Student Bio
I am Katie, a transgender student on the VFX & Animation course. I am an artist and animator, and I share my creations online under the alias “Specimen 402”. I have quite a few hobbies and I really enjoy listening to music from all eras, and some of my favourites include Queen, Metallica, and Daft Punk. Other interests include literature, anime, video games, theme parks and virtual reality.
I always wanted to be an animator from a young age after seeing all the Disney classics. It is a lot of fun now I can begin to live out my dream finally. I currently specialise in 2D animation, and I use frame by frame animation and motion graphics equally; However, I have also never really dabbled in the 3D side, so I might change my mind once I have made some animation in that medium.
In my animation projects, I like to have some sort of LGBTQ+ representation as the LGBTQ+ community is very important and personal to me as a trans girl. I also enjoy injecting a small amount of comedy into animations as I like to entertain people.
In terms of the future, I would like to move onto university. I have not fully chosen a course I would like to do most, although I have looked at several at Nottingham Trent University and the London College of the Arts. When I am finally done with all my education, I would very much like to work on animated films or cartoons as part of a studio. Personally, freelancing seems too difficult to do on its own, although I can see myself doing it on the side.
